REED STUDY
007 / CONTOUR

Contour,
find your voice.

A little more opening, a softer landing.
Settle into a voice, then shape a phrase.

A LITTLE BREATH GOES A LONG WAY

Enable sound, then hold a key.
Start with a comfortable volume.

One voice, room to move.

CONTOUR · G3–G4

Start between the central and larger opening you liked. The main melody keeps this setting steady.

Tuned at the reference breath for each opening. Breath can still bend the sounding pitch.

Beginning

Release a restrained reed, or let the air bring it in.

Ending

Soft gives the short ending a little more room.

Overlapping keys carry the same breath. Turn off to give each note a new beginning.

Ready when you are. Escape stops everything.

THE SAME GESTURE, AGAIN

Five ways to hear it.

Shape the reed, then replay a short phrase.
Some phrases move controls; your slider settings return
when you play by hand.

Pick a phrase, then listen to its entrance, held sound, and ending.

The listening study also has three damping variants and a pitch-compensation preview. Those are saved experiments; this keyboard keeps the established Contour mechanics and natural breath inflection.

YOUR HANDS, YOUR PHRASE

Keep a gesture.

Record your notes, breath, opening, and bends. Keep a gesture you like, then listen again.

Recording captures controls, not microphone audio. Replaying uses the gesture’s recorded control changes.

No gesture recorded yet.

WAV uses the current phrase and its controls. It excludes the listening volume.

Pressure, tuning & calculation

A shaped reed, a measured reference.

Opening changes the reed’s resting gap. Its resonance, damping, and pressure scale stay fixed. The note tuning follows the opening setting; it does not listen and correct your pitch.

Loading the measured breath range…

Across the tested main Breath range, pitch moved by up to about one-third of a semitone (33 cents), mostly at gentle breath on upper notes. That is a measured result for these tests, not a limit on every gesture.

The pitch display estimates the sounding fundamental. A changing or noisy sound may not give a stable reading.

Experimental pressure can fail to start a note. This wider range is separate from the main Breath control.

Higher rate is the starting point. Standard may help if playback breaks up on your device; its tone can differ.

Changing the calculation rate stops the phrase. Short and Soft endings shape the breath fall and use an output taper. Sound weight changes the output filter; it does not change the reed.
